No 34. Ivory-billed Woodpecker
Ivory-billed Woodpeckers are Critically Endangered, and some experts believe they are extinct. Heavy logging activity and hunting by collectors devastated the population in the late 19th century. The woodpeckers were generally considered extinct, yet in the 1920s a pair turned up in Florida, only to be shot for specimens.
