I recently painted 100 extinct birds as part of a project that was called 100 Birds You Will Never See Again. The main purpose was to bring awareness to extinct birds as well as honor each one. These birds are truly lost gems. The reality is that you, your children, and future generations will never get to meet these lost birds.

The Giant Hoopoe

An amazing Giant Hoopoe.  So, first bird in this series that I couldn't put a hat on.. Just didn't want to mess up that beautiful feather hair.  Giant Hoopoes were flightless birds from the island of Saint Helena in the South Atlantic.

Now gone...     Extinct 16th century
