I recently painted 100 extinct birds as part of a project that was called 100 Birds You Will Never See Again. The main purpose was to bring awareness to extinct birds as well as honor each one. These birds are truly lost gems. The reality is that you, your children, and future generations will never get to meet these lost birds.

The Chatham Island Fernbird
This bird has attitude. A Chatham Island Fernbird. According to accounts, these little birds were described as rather common in 1871. Yet, brush fires and the overgrazing by goats and rabbits would cause the fernbird loss.
